The biggest disadvantage for most prog bands is that live playing does not occur regularly. An aging audience that no longer wants to stand all evening. Tribute bands that are more popular than bands with their own work, poor presale – are all reasons why organizers think three times before taking financial risks by programming a prog band. This was also the case in the 1990s when Flamborough Head had just been founded. You could complain about it, but it was better to do something about it. Fortunately, Flamborough Head’s drummer Koen Roozen owned a location where we could organize our own festival; De Harmsdobbe – the camping farm in Bakkeveen. Here we organized the first edition of ProgFarm, the festival that would eventually grow into an extremely successful and popular festival. Flamborough Head organized fifteen editions between 1997 and 2011. Big Big Train, PO90, Gnidrolog, Everon, Karnataka, Karfagen, Also Eden, Yesterdays, Mostly Autumn, Mangala Vallis, Cast & Moon Safari; a small selection of the more than 60 bands that came to perform in Bakkeveen.
Visit the ProgFarm pages on the Flamborough Head website for more information.
